About

"Long, sandy beach with many massive piers & spa hotel "

Saltsjöbaden is part of a several kilometer long stretch of sand that runs from Ale stenar in the east to Ystad in the west. Saltsjöbaden beach is located in the very west of this stretch, just southeast of the city of Ystad. Lining the stretch of sand are sand dunes and a paved beach walk. Along this, majestic summerhouses line up one after the other, as well as small colorful bath cabanas that are characteristic for Skåne county. There are five robust piers in different sections of the beach. According to the municipality handicap facilities are available. There is frequently some algae in the near shore waters. Note that strong currents prevail in the water, especially when wind direction is towards land. This part of the coastline also gets dumping waves from passing ships. Always walk out in the water and swim the way back. Directly adjacent to the beach, in its western part, you will find a hotel with restaurant, swimming pool and a spa with outdoor jacuzzis from which you can enjoy the sea view. In the eastern part there is a café and ice cream bar. The distance between these facilities is quite large so plan where to stay on the beach if you know you will be craving for food or ice cream. On the beach are a couple of concrete bunkers from the world war II. They were part of a 500 km defense line running along the Swedish coast to protect from potential invasions.
